Come play with fabric, tissue, paper and paint! Create a collage on heavy fabric that can be used in many ways; from book covers to framed art. No drawing, or painting skills required. We will use supplied sketches (but you can bring your own), layer them on fabric, add collage elements, finger paint, add texture, and washes of color. I will demo a collage using a face sketch, but you can choose to create landscapes, or abstract compositions in class as well. This technique will cross over to any style. Your collage will be thick and sturdy, yet flexible, and can be changed to any size you desire. No sewing required, but you can bring a sewing machine if you would like to add sewing as an embellishment.
DJ Pettitt will provide a kit with written instructions and color, step-by-step process photos. Kit will also include a face sketch, hand painted tissues, sandwich paper, and skewer. Kit fee is $10.
Supplies students need to bring:
* Small container of Soft Matte Gel Medium.
* Small container of white gesso.
* Paint Palette. Anything flat.
* Palette knife. A trowel shaped knife is a must. Flat ones won’t work.
* Water container.
* Paper towels or paint rag.
* Pencil.
* 1/2" flat brush.
* Round brush - about a #4, but anything close to that size will be fine. Liner brushes with tiny short bristles won't work.
* 3-4 bottles of acrylic paint, along with a brown and a black. My favorites are Golden Fluid paints.
* 1 piece of duck cloth, or other canvas-type cloth in cream or white. This needs to be a fairly close weave, and approximately 10” X 12”.
* Collage goodies – paper ephemera, lace, buttons, text from books etc.
* Tacky glue if you will be adding buttons or other dimensional items to your collage.
* Small scraps of fabric to use for clothing, flowers etc. You will only need a few, small pieces.
