“Homecomings” class info

Pam garrison c 2008

Class is for artists of all levels

Everyone needs something special to greet them when they reach their doorstep, and to greet guests as well. In this 3 hour class we will reuse an old game board and turn it into a house shaped hanging that you can decorate to your hearts content with vintage paper, other ephmera, trim, millinery flowers, old junk jewelry bits, doodles etc. etc. I will be using all my favorite materials on mine, and will have lots of supplies to share, but don’t hesitate to bring those special items that will really make it your own and make your piece in the style that best suits you. That way, each time you return home and are greeted by your creation that holds a fresh flower, it will feel like a homecoming indeed.

Supplies needed:
One half of old game board (such as a scrabble board cut where it folds.
Neutral background papers such as music or ledger papers
Scraps of Trim, paper, ribbon, metal lamp trim, …whatever materials are your favorites when making mixed media art; maybe glitter, or crepe paper, stamp and ink, old words from a children’s book, favorite paint pen, marker, crayons, etc. etc. ?
A few pieces of junk jewelry or buttons, any other small 3D embellishments that speak to you of home
2 feet of wire (no finer than 22 guage)- we need it to hold on your “vase”
an old bottle (a flatter backed bottle works nicely, but we can make a round bottle work too)
2 feet of ribbon to hang your piece
small amount of gesso
Try not to plan out your design too much, let the materials you brought and class sharing materials lead you during the class.

{Please note: As well as free items to share, I will have various vintage one of a kind items for individual sale during class in case you would like to buy something special for your project. They will range in price, size, condition etc.}

Basic tool kit:
Scissors
Craft (exacto) knife
Cutting matt
Wire cutters
Pliers
Paper adhesive
Glue dots
Adhesive to hold on heavier items if you plan to use them
Awl or cropodile or Japanese screw punch if you have one
Charcol pencil

PLEASE don’t buy any of the basic took kit items just for this class. If you don’t already have it, I’m sure there will be plenty in class to share.
