PROJECT DESCRIPTION
A round-robin project á la “True Colors.”
See this site: http://somersetstudio.com/html/true_colors.html for some pictures from True Colors.
If you haven’t seen it, you should (IMHO) get this book – or borrow it from the library
(as I did) – it’s really inspiring for the mixed media artist.
- Laurie
How it works:
Each participant will begin a book/journal and then send it as loose pages on to the next person in their participation group. At the end of the project you will receive your own book back filled with pages made by the other artists. You will then bind the book as you wish and then you will possess a completed journal's worth of collaborative art! (Hooray!)
The reason it is called a book or journal project is because you are encouraged to "journal" on your pages your feelings or thoughts about the theme.
The first theme is “What do you love about life?”

I picked the first theme - "what do you love about life?" - because it offers the flexibility of illustrating what you love about life or allowing you to follow up on what the book’s originator loves about life.
For example: the book’s originator just loves and is grateful for her dog. She does 2 pages about his impact on her life. You don’t have a dog, but you have fond memories of your childhood dog and are inspired to do a couple pages illustrating your memories.
Or, you hate dogs and decide to do one page on what you love about your mailman and one on what you love about your cat.
Or, you’re inspired by the originator’s use of purple and white and decide to do a couple pages on your elementary school librarian and your nephew – in purple and white.
Or, you love your new shoes and your old blue sweater and decide to do pages on them in other, completely different colors.
In Cercles D'ame, the world is your oyster. Do what you will!
Logistics:
Limit of 7 people per book. After everyone signs up, groups will be divided up evenly so that there isn’t one group with 2 people and one group with 7. Each person does 2 pages.
You start your book – the one you will get back at the end; you have the option to do the cover and 1 page or the cover and 2 pages.
You choose the format, i.e.: size, binding, etc. It can be as simple as 8 ½ X 11 with holes punched and embellished binder rings, or it can be hand-stitched, or whatever you wish. Just let the people in your group know how much, and what kind of, room you need at the edge for binding. For example; if I am going to do a simple hole-punch edge with embellished binder rings, then it is fine for people to paint/stamp/glue paper right up to the edge as long as the main image/artwork stops about ¾” from the left edge. Binding will happen at the end of the project.
Note: For the Second Round, Sign-up opens on April 1st and closes on April 31st. The project will officially begin the second week of May. If you want to be notified immediately when sign ups open, then please be sure and join ZNE Alerts, in order to receive emails notificaiton of ZNE activity dates and deadlines.
Books will be sent on to the next person every 2 weeks - so for timing purposes, consider that the process will take 14 weeks or just over three months to complete.
At the conclusion of this project we will set up a gallery so that everyone can see the fruits of your labor. Please be prepared to scan and upload your book by the date specified in your participation packet. In addition, you are advised to scan or photograph the work you contribute to your other Cercles group members' journals.
